For the March 3, 2016 tasting at The Vintage Cellar, the first wine on the tasting list was the Quintas Melgaco Blue Vinho Verde 2013 from Vinho Verde, Portugal. This wine typically runs $10, but was on sale for $5.95
The Vintage Cellar provided us with the following review:
"Refreshingly
crisp white wine from Portugal--Vinho Verde is soft, light and refreshing, and
is an uncompromising and ideal wine for everyday pleasure. Its bright color and
pineapple aromas are followed by citrus notes. The palate is clean and fresh.
Vinho Verde is an excellent accompaniment to fish and shell fish, white meats
and salads."
When this wine was first poured into my glass I immediately noted that it was a very light white wine. On the nose, I got a citrus scent, but it was a very sweet citrus scent with a strong smell of sugar and honey. I couldn't get much from the scent because today the pouring was much smaller portions, and despite asking for more, it was still less than a full sip in the glass. I spent more time than usual swooshing it around my mouth to try and get a better taste and found a nice taste of grapefruit with a floral dandelion taste in the finish. Overall, I thought this wine was pretty good as it fit my personal preference in that it was light and sweet. I did not have this wine with food but would definitely consider it to pair with fish in the future.
